Sri Chinmoy (August 27, 1931 – October 11, 2007) was an Indian spiritual teacher and philosopher who moved to the U.S. in 1964. Sri Chinmoy wrote 1,650 books, available on-line, 115,000 poems, 23,000 songs, created 200,000 paintings, and gave almost 800 concerts. During a concert he would usually play ten or fifteen different instruments, such as esraj, cello, dilruba, synthesizer, and a variety of flutes, as well as improvising on piano and pipe organ. Many attendees were inspired by the soulfulness of his simple melodies and improvisations. Some of his biggest concerts of meditation music attracted audiences of more than 10,000 listeners.
