Gong Expresso was the latest branch of the massive Gong family tree, formed in 2018 as the reunion of core members of HR3 (Hansford Rowe's trio) with two former members of Pierre Moerlen's Gong (of whom Rowe was also a founding member).
Their one-off album 'Decadence' was recorded in Paris, and was initially planned as the second album of HR3, with participation of Hansford's old compatriots from France, François Causse and Benoît Moerlen. This near re-iteration of the Pierre Moerlen's Gong rhythm section (Hansford, François and Benoît) finally resulted in this new band christened after the title of the album Gong - Expresso II in which they all played together for the first time in 1977.
