Journey Into Darkness

Effective period / Period of releases: 2021

Members: Brett Clarin

Ex-Near Death Experience.
Journey Into Darkness is the solo project of ex-guitarist Brett Clarin from the death doom metal band Sorrow (Roadrunner, 1991-1993). The music is a unique style of symphonic black death metal with dark yet expansive orchestral layers. Dark and sinister melodies prevail all while maintaining heaviness and intensity.

"After the Roadrunner death metal purge in the early 90s, Sorrow called it quits. I started writing music electronically that was reminiscent of the intros and interludes on death and black metal albums. The first album "Life Is a Near Death Experience" was the result, an all synth album that combined dungeon synth with death and black metal. That was in 1996.

Many years later, in 2017, I decided to resurrect JID, but this time I wanted it to be much heavier and more like symphonic black metal. So, I added guitars and brought in vocalist Jei Doublerice. The second album "Multitudes Of Emptiness" is the bridge between the old all synth style and the new heavier symphonic black death metal style. Half the tracks are synth, half are with guitars and vocals.

The 3rd release "Infinite Universe Infinite Death" completed the transition to symphonic black death metal with a bit of doom reminiscent of the early days in Sorrow. It is a result of 30 years of songwriting."

Available on CD, cassette and vinyl through Spirit Coffin Publishing.
