Thomas Friz
German singer, guitarist and flutist
Born: March 5, 1950 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Died: August 29, 2023 in Göppingen, Germany.
Thomas Friz wrote himself into German folk and singer-songwriter history as one half of the duo Zupfgeigenhansel. As a solo artist, he also offered programs of Jewish and German folk songs and released solo records. In 1994, he suffered a violent attack by right-wing skinheads, which led to a painstaking period of relearning the guitar. In 2022, while working with Erich Schmeckenbecher to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Zupfgeigenhansel, he announced his retirement from performing after suffering a heart attack.
