Willi Fantl

Real name: Willy Fantel

Austrian multi-instrumentalist, composer, band leader, and conductor, born 1.10.1930 in Vienna, died 23.11.2021 in Oberwart. Session player for hundreds of studio recordings. Played in the Boheme Bar Trio and was the conductor in Etablissement Ronacher (1957-58). In 1958, Fantel conducted Dolf van der Linden's Metropole Orchestra for the Austrian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest. With his ownorchestra, Willy Fantel und Seine Solisten, he performed in Schlosshotel Velden for the summer season for many years. Also accompanied Udo Jürgens on his Romanian tour in 1964. After a spell as a cabaret manager in Munich, Fantel joined ORF Burgenland, where he worked until his retirement in 1990.
