Russian-born American orchestral music conductor, songwriter and arranger.
Born 22 December 1901 in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Died 13 January 1980 in Haiti.
Married to soprano Lily Pons from 1938 to 1958 (divorced).
One of the pioneers of easy listening music. Four of his albums made Billboard Hot 200.
He charted in the U.S. as a songwriter 5 times, all from 1939-40. Four of them were top 10 singles, including the #1 song "Moon Love" by The Glenn Miller Orchestra, (co-written by written by Mack David & Mack Davis). "Moon Love" charted 4 times in 1939: also by Al Donahue and His Orchestra, Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra, and Mildred Bailey. "On the Isle of May" by Connee Boswell made it to #3 (also co-written by Mack David).
