Berkshire folk rock band from Chichester, England (UK). They first disbanded in 1972 but reunited in the 1990s. Heron took the concept of rural folk a stage further by actually recording their first two albums in a field.

Heron's origin can be traced all the way to the Dolphin Folk Club in Maidenhead 1967, where Tony Pook (vocals), Roy Apps (guitar, vocals) and Robert Collins (guitar) first came together as a collective, inspired by Bob Dylan and the early The Incredible String Band. Others members were keyboardist Steve Jones and G.T. Moore. Another early member was Martin Hayward, who'd left before the band signed for Dawn.

By 1968, Collins was out of the picture but with the addition of fellow local folk club habitués Gerald Thomas "G.T." Moore (guitar, mandolin, vocals) and Martin Hayward (guitar), the band settled down to become Heron. They signed to Pye's progressive sublabel Dawn and released 2 albums, a single and an EP on the label. Disagreements in the band led to the band splitting in 1972.

They started back in the 1990s, establishing Relaxx in the process. In 2008, Gerry Power joined in (vocals, guitar, mandolin, percussion). In 2020 Tony Pook died, leaving things open re: the future of the band.
