Szamosi Szabolcs

He was born in Pécs, Hungay in 1970. As the organist, musical director and choirmaster of the Pécs Basilica he revitalised the church musical life in Pécs and left his mark on the musical events of the 1990s an onwards. He began his career as an organist at Pannonhalma under supervision of organist Ferenc Lukács Áment OSB, he graduated from Pécs University as a teacher of mathematics and music. At the same time, he studied the organ in Szeged under the instruction of Mária Égető. He graduated in Budapest as a church choir master, under organist and composer István Koloss. He graduated with honours in church music from the Graz Academy of Music, specialising as an organist and organ teacher. His teachers were Ernst Triebel and Hannfried Lucke. He did his Masters course with Louis Rubillard, Eduardo Belotti and Michael Radulescu.

He has been the organist and musical director at the Pécs Basilica since 1994, where he has initiated and organised several musical events. He has given concerts all over Hungary on every major church and concert organ, as well as in many places in Europe, including Iceland. He was awarded the Austrian Würdigungspreis in 2002 by the Austrian Minister of Culture. Many of his concerts have been broadcasted on tv and radio, and he has been recording cds since 1993.
