Biography

Ray Coats
Ray Coats was a Waco, Texas-based singer and songwriter, with a long career and a handful of songs recorded - Dave Stogner cut Coats and Buddy Woody's "Walkin' On Easy Street" on Joyce, for example. "Texas Blues," was written by Waco songwriter Helen G. Phillips, however, and comes from an unnumbered pressing on Houston's Shamrock label that proceeded Bob Wills' classic MGM recording of this tune by some seeks and may conceivably have inspired it. Although mastered at ACA in Houston, it was apparently cut at Buddy Woody's Studio in Waco.
