American organist, composer and educator, born September 20, 1954 in Chicago.

He works in Sweden at Luleå University of Technology, where he teaches organ playing, counterpoint, music theory and free improvisation. In addition to his homeland and Sweden, Verkade has been active in Germany, where he studied organ for Gerd Zacher.

Seemed's studies have lent him both Master of Fine Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts, the latter for his dissertation on a choral prelude by Georg Böhm.

He gives concerts and teaches master classes regularly in different places in Europe and North America.

Verkade is a member of the Association of Swedish Composers.
