Real name: José Nunes de Souza

José Nunes de Souza (Maestro Nunes), born in 1931, in Angélicas, district of Vicência/PE is a Brazilian maestro, arranger and composer. His taste for music began in childhood, when, at the age of 9, as a clarinetist, he participated in a band in his village. He arrived in Recife in the 1950s. He studied at the Pernambucano Conservatory of Music. He won first place in several frevo competitions. He has a degree in Fine Arts from UFPE. He is the founder of the Escola Musical do Frevo, where young musicians, now nationally known, such as Spok and Forró, passed through. In 2009 it received the title of Living Heritage of Pernambuco. The frevo CABELO DE FOGO, one of the most performed of the Pernambuco carnival, was made in honor of a friend (Birino), who usually dyes his hair.
