Rubén Darío Herrera Martínez. Composer, arranger and Mexican conductor (Cansahcab, Yucatán, July 29, 1897 - Mérida, Yucatán, October 28, 1962). He made the jarana known in Mexico and abroad. In 1929 he traveled to New York to record several of his jaranas with an orchestra for the Brunswick label, “Mi Yola y mi Nirva”, “Bella Filomena”, “Coqueteando”, “Vaquería “, y “Evelina”. His best known songs are “Amor Secreto”with verses by the Venezuelan Diego Córdoba; the clave-bolero “Boca Loca”, with Carlos Duarte Moreno, as well as “Luna hawaina” y “El príncipe azul” of his entire authorship. He composed the music for the Hymn to Felipe Carrillo Puerto, with lyrics by Edmundo Bolio Ontiveros that premieres on January 3, 1925 on the occasion of the first death anniversary of the Yucatecan hero.
