Died on May 30, 1982, Los Angeles, California.
Brother of Otis Rene and father of Googie Rene.
He was a record producer in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. He established several record labels, most notably Exclusive, Excelsior Records and Class.
As a songwriter, he charted seventeen times between 1931-1962, all but one in the U.S. "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano" charted three times, first by The Glenn Miller Orchestra (#2) and then by The Ink Spots (#4) in 1940 followed by Pat Boone (#80) in 1957. "When It's Sleepy Time Down South" by Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra hit #6 in 1931 (co-written by Clarence Muse & his brother Otis Rene).
