The project was formed on July 4th, 1984 when Charles Rice Goff III, Robert Silverman, and Killr Mark Kaswan first came together for an improvised recording session of guitars, keyboards, a cello and prepared tape samples all fed into the Frippertronics-style tape loop system. The name only came about in 1989 when they started to release material from their various prior sessions.
The project was open to everyone willing to record with them, and it was agreed upon to leave the musical style of the project open to anything as well.
Over the course of two decades, no fewer than 29 individuals took part of creating these recordings and / or participating in public performances.
