Kanarie Kinderkoor
Children's choir associated with the Kanariesschool in Paramaribo, Suriname. The school for toddlers and preschoolers opened its doors on October 3, 1979. Carmelita Malone, one of the teachers, composed songs for the school about subjects that were important to Suriname, which had become independent in 1975. To give these songs a larger audience the Kanarie Kinderkoor was founded and they were so successful that they even performed abroad.
The choir still exists today. The children between the ages of seven and twelve that sing in the choir have rehearsals every week on Saturday afternoons.
