Based in the capital city of San José, the Orquestra Sinfónica Nacional de Costa Rica (National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica) was created in 1940 and will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2020. American Carl St. Clair has been its Principal Director since 2014.Its objective is the dissemination of classical music, as well as choral singing and the lyrical arts, in addition to being responsible for instrumental training in this country. It is made up of seventy-two professional musicians, 87% of them Costa Rican. They perform between 70 and 90 concerts a year, divided into six seasons.
