Born March 5, 1887 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Died November 17, 1959 (aged 72) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He's been described as "the single most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian art music". Villa-Lobos wrote numerous orchestral, chamber, instrumental and vocal works and is one of the best-known South American composer of all times.
Early in life, he learned to play the cello, clarinet, and classical guitar. [He also appears as Hector Villalobos]
