Akasa means 'Outer Space' in Sanskrit

Akasa was a band formed in 1989 which consisted of lead singer, Sophiya Haque and 2 other musicians, John 'Jhalib' Millar who played percussion and tabla and Clem Alford who played the sitar. Martyn Phillips was the producer of Akasa.

After releasing their one and only album, One Night In My Life', the band split. John Millar, fondly known as Jhalib, Clem and Martyn continued producing more music whilst Sophiya left the UK and came to Asia to join Star Television Networks.
