Eight Microwave
Eight Microwave appeared in Angra dos Reis at the end of 1998. The initial idea was to create a power trio that would make punk rock pure, fast and with refrains that stick in the head. The first lineup featured Kito (vocals and guitar), Diogo (drums) and Pedro Henrique (vocals and bass).
In 1999 came the first demo tape, Saturday. At that time, independent band shows were booming at Beco da Bohemia, a show house in Rio de Janeiro. It was there that the first and memorable shows of Eight in Rio rolled, with the first fans coming out of the hometown.
In 2000, Pedro Henrique, one of the founders of Eight, left the band. As substitute, Bernardo Machado entered, commonly known as "Panza." Immediate tuning, quickness in the thick strings and gas in the backing vocals. It was what the band needed.
With new songs and months of rehearsals, Eight recorded its first CD: "In the clown's hand", in 2001 by the 13 records label from São Paulo, which had in its repertoire Street Bulldogs, Holy Tree, Carbona, among others. The Eight / 13 partnership yielded shows of varying sizes: from 16 thousand people at a festival in MG to 16 people in Angra dos Reis. But it's alright. What matters is being on the stage, rocking, drinking and spitting a lot of beer. Attitude that marked the band and won many accolades: "real rock show".
After four intense years of concerts, the band decided to record a new album, which already had a name even before it was born: "Too drunk for you". A great friend and talented musician, Fábio Andrade (The Invisibles), was a partner at the beginning of the project, bridging the gap between the band and who would make the difference, music producer Stanley Svaig. Stanley had produced bands like Los Hermanos, Matanza and Detonautas, among others. The band's 2nd CD was produced, recorded and re-recorded with the preciosity necessary to balance with the group's bluster. But the album was so late that it was already being affectionately nicknamed by friends and fans as "Microwave Democracy" (a reference to Guns n 'Roses' new album due out in 1995).
The long time was a reflection for the band, that after much insistence of the Stanley, decided to record "Too drunk for you" in Portuguese. The songs were rewritten, which delayed even more. But after a total of 2 ½ years, the new CD from Eight Microwave, now "Too Much Alcohol for You" was done. Besides the CD being in Portuguese, another novelty is that the band made available the songs, the CD arts, and other promotional materials for download at http://www.eightmicrowave.com.
"A lot of Alcohol for You" also had its press version as it sends the costumes, for who wants to have the album as it was idealized and with a bonus track that is not available in the site. The CD is being sold at a popular price, with no intention of profit. For Eight, the most important thing is to spread their name and their work, playing everywhere on the planet, just for the pleasure of rock n 'roll.
The downloads and sales of this independent band's last album were astounding, above the band's own expectations, this is the strongest proof that when rock is honest and well crafted, the results are great.
