Vern charted 22 times on the U.S. country charts as a songwriter and 41 tiimes as a singer between 1976-1999. As a singer he had 3 #1 songs, including " I Can Tell By the Way You Dance (You're Gonna Love Me Tonight)" (1984), "Set 'Em Up Joe" (1988), and "I'm Still Crazy" (1989) (the last 2 co-written by him). He aso hit #2 in 1989 with "Who You Gonna Blame It on This Time" (also co-written by him).
