Real name: Katharine Lee Bates

American writer, poet, professor, and social activist (August 12, 1859, Falmouth, MA - March 28, 1929, Wellesley, MA).
Although she was a renowned author and professor during her lifetime, today she is primarily remembered as the author of the words to the anthem "America the Beautiful."
Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
