Biography

Mürzzuschlager Eisenbahnkapelle
Austrian railroad workers brass band in Mürzzuschlag, the capital of Steiermark (Styria), established in 1902 and still active.
Founded as Musikverein für Bedienstete der k. k. priv. Südbahngesellschaft in Mürzzuschlag (Music Association for Employees of the Imperial and Royal Southern Railway Company in Mürzzuschlag); the first conductor of the Eisenbahner-Musikverein was Friedrich Koppitz. Starting in the 1900s, the Eisenbahnkapelle recorded widely for Austrian and foreign labels like Columbia and Zonophone; smaller, associated bands were the Bauernkapelle (peasant band) and a Tanzkapelle (dance band).
Several members of the band increased its repertoire with their own compositions, in particular Franz Traunwieser (1897–1959).
