British conductor. He was born 17 June 1924 in Birmingham, England, UK and died 10 July 2009 in Zürich, Switzerland.
Appointed commander (CBE) - Order of the British Empire in 1986 (Sir Edward Thomas Downes).

Not to be confused with american musicologist Edward Downes (3).
