Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra

Real name: *fictitious name*

Effective period / Period of releases: 1988

Fictitious orchestra often conducted by the also fictitious conductor Peter Stern. Recordings commonly appear on budget releases.

This is for mislabelled "Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra" use ONLY (i.e., where the orchestra name is used fictitiously). It is best to state explicitly in the notes that this is the case.

The practice of bogus orchestras using established names is more likely to occur on fly-by-night labels, where the conductor is a relative unknown. Established labels employing musicians on a session-by-session basis, rather than giving a false credit, would generally invent an orchestra name which sounds respectable and established, but does not really exist, e.g. Vienna Festival Orchestra. Doubtful conductors, probably indicating a bogus credit, include George Richter, Henry Adolph, Moshe Nussbaum, Helmut Bucher and Alfred Scholz.
