Will Ezell

Real name: William Ezell

Effective period / Period of releases: 1929 - 1944

American blues, jazz, ragtime and boogie-woogie pianist and singer.

Born : December 23, 1892 in Brenham, Texas.
Died : August 02, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois.

William Ezell was a blues and ragtime piano player and occasional singer from the jukes around Shreveport, LA.
Associated with Elzadie Robinson,a blues singer from the same city. Came to Chicago from Arkansas, according to J. Mayo Williams, and recorded for Paramount from 1926 to 1931. Played anywhere between Detroit and Texas. His 'Barrel House Man', Robinson's 'Barrel House Woman' (probably the source of Rambling Thomas's 'Saw Mill Moan') and Lucille Bogan's 'Sloppy Drunk Blues' are essentially the same piece, and possibly related to the 'Vicksburg Blues'.
(from "Deep South Piano" by Karl Gert zur Heide)
