Leo Zimmerman

Real name: Leopold A. Zimmerman

Effective period / Period of releases: 1914

American trombonist, cornetist and composer; March 1, 1866, Canton, OH - December 18, 1935, Englewood NJ. Primarily self-taught, Zimmerman worked his way up to principal trombonist with popular bands including the Innes and Gilmore Bands in New York City in the 1890's. John Philip Sousa recruited him in 1903 to replace Arthur Pryor in Sousa's Band when Pryor left to form his own band. "Zimmy", as he was known by his friends, would go on to a long career soloing and playing with numerous bands; as well as producing many recordings and radio broadcasts.
