Douglas Boyd

British classical oboist and conductor, born 1959 in Glasgow, Scotland.
He studied oboe with Janet Craxton at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and with Maurice Bourgue in Paris. He co-founded The Chamber Orchestra Of Europe in 1981 and was its principal oboist until 2002.
In 2006, he ceased performing on the oboe to focus full-time on his conducting career. He held the positions of Music Director of (2001-2011), Principal Guest Conductor of The Colorado Symphony Orchestra (2008-2011), Artistic Partner of The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (2004-2009) and Principal Guest Conductor of City Of London Sinfonia.
He is currently Principal Conductor of (since the 2009-2010 season) and was also named Artistic Director of Garsington Opera in November 2012.
