The Buryat State Song and Dance Ensemble was founded in 1939, and by 1980 had been given the name "Baikal".
In 2005 it was combined with the Buryat orchestra of Folk Instruments and the Badma Seseg (Бадма Сэсэг) dance theatre to create The Buryat State National Theatre of Song and Dance "Baikal".
