Danish group (formed 1977 in Aalborg, Denmark) with a clear political expression, their lyrics among other things protesting against American imperialism and the use of nuclear power in Denmark. The twin singers were active in the Danish women's movement and worked at Jomfru Ane Teatret in Aalborg. The similar name originated from the legend of virgin Ane (jomfru Ane). Claus Flygare, who also worked at Jomfru Ane Teatret and whose texts are used in songs of Jomfru Ane Band, has explained that virgin Ane was said to have a sister named Regitze presumed to be the mother of an illegitimate child. However, Regitze put the blame on her sister Ane who was then sentenced to death for fornication, illustrated on the front cover of the album Jomfru Ane Band - Jomfru Ane.
