Miami based early 70s latin funk soul pop group, with the majority of their songs sung in English. Also known as Los Coke, and renamed Opus after been sued by the famous beverage brand.Paul Garcia, Ruben Perez, Ariel Hernandez and Jose Rubio formed the band Coke whilst attending High School in Miami. The quartet began as a garage band, but then Ariel Hernandez looked to expand the line-up and brought to rehearsal two horn players, Cesar Godinez and Victor Rodriguez, along with the vocalist Peter Fernandez. Soon they signed a record deal and released a full lenght LP in 1972. The self-titled Coke album instantly proved a hit, selling 10.000 copies in Miami and Southern Florida within weeks.Unfortunately, poor promotion outside Florida and the threat of a lawsuit from Coca Cola led the band to change its name to Opus, starting a completely different story.
