The Toons

Effective period / Period of releases: 1982

There was an acappella group called first the Cartoons fronted by John Milne, and then the Toons, back in the 70s. They decided to hire some musicians - a bassist, a guitarist, and a drummer. These three later continued as a trio and backup rhythm section for a number of acts around the San Francisco Bay area, The musicians involved were Gil Doyle on guitar, Bob Santa Cruz on bass, and drummer Mike Carey. All three were excellent vocalists, as well. Released on Rhino Records the album owes a huge debt to Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys, both in song construction, melodies and harmonies.
