L Twills is the music and performance project of transdisciplinary artist Lila-Zoé Krauß, that was born in Alice Springs and grew up in Hamburg. She studied Fine Arts at HFBK Hamburg and the California Institute of the Arts.
As a singer, songwriter, composer, producer and performer L Twills develops different projects: from album productions, sound installations, concert evenings, radiophonic compositions to aural theater pieces. Thematically she aims to explore the multi-sensory connections between memory, music and the body as well as their political implications. Therefore L Twills develops a genre crossing practice to compose, titled Rhythm Imprints, that deploys processes and techniques such as improvisation, analog and digital sound synthesis, sample and effect modulation as well as the use of guitar, bass, keys, drums and voice. It is a practice of sonic fictioning, that understands the past collective and individual memories not as static, but rather as living, fluid, dynamic and changeable constructs, whose interpretation and retelling influence the present. Through the interweaving of sound installation, live performance and architectural intervention, hybrid compositions are created in which classical forms, such as the choir or the opera cross contemporary genres like triphop, experimental pop dancemusic and noise.
