Biography

Antonio Utrera
Cuban singer born in Havana on January 6, 1902 and died in Havana in 1964.
He married very young and soon moved to New York to continue his music studies, as he had already shown aptitudes. There he also found the possibility of recording for RCA Victor, especially with the tenor José Moriche. But he missed his land and decided to return around 1929, giving up a good chance of having made it to the Metropolitan. On his return he devoted himself to other activities, and although he sporadically sang mainly in zarzuelas, he did not dedicate himself professionally to bel canto, thus losing a powerful voice with a beautiful timbre.
Antonio generally recorded in duet, for example with Mariano Meléndez and with the Spanish tenor José Moriche.
