津田道子

Real name: Michiko Tsuda

(April 13, 1918 - June 22, 2003)

She was born to the second daughter of Seifu Tsuda, a leading figure in Jiuta songs that has been handed down in Kyoto, and she learned koto from an early age. After graduating from university, she studied at graduate school alongside a mathematics teacher, and became an invited professor at the University of Washington Graduate School in 1966. He had been studying under Masagin Hagiwara (intangible cultural property record holder, died in 1952), but after returning to Japan, he became more passionate about returning to Japanese tradition, and also performed the "Shamisen Kumika" in Edo. Restore. He is instrumental in handing down and preserving all the koto songs that have been handed down in Kyoto, and the Kokyu of the Armzaki style. He was known as a theorist in the Japanese music world, introducing computers for melody pattern analysis. His books include "Basic knowledge of koto" and "Kyoto no Hibiki Yanagawa Shamisen".
