Haruhiko Haida, Japanese-American steel guitar and ukulele player and composer (born April 24, 1909 in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A. – died October 16, 1986)

Haruhiko Haida (a.k.a. Yukihiko Haida) was born in Honolulu to Dr. Katsugorō Haida, president of the Japanese Charity Hospital. In 1921, he went to Japan to attend college and graduate school there. In 1928, he formed the Moana Glee Club with the Haruhiko Haida Hawaiian Band. During the war, Hawaiian music was suppressed because it was considered enemy music. After the end of the war in 1945, however, Haida formed a new band, Haruhiko Haida And New Moana, that featured his younger brother Katsuhiko Haida (灰田勝彦) as vocalist.
