German underground band formed in Helmstedt (east of Hannover, on the old DDR border) ca. 1972, taking their name from the Goethe poem, Erlkoenig developed a brand of classical spiced progressive that was as mystical and mysterious as their ambiguous name. They started as a trio, adding guitar shortly before recording their album.
