Open Road

Effective period / Period of releases: 1971 - 1972

Members: Simon Lanzon, Barry Husband, John Carr, Mike Thomson

After Donovan parted ways with Mickie Most in 1969, he signed for Dawn and recorded the LP Donovan - Open Road (1970). After the sessions Donovan played some live concerts with his new band, which he named Open Road. After performances in Europe and at the Isle of Wight festival, Donovan parted company with his band the same year. Drummer John Carr and bassist / guitarist Mike Thomson were able to continue as Open Road and recruited guitarist Barry Husband plus Simon Lanzon on keyboards. The quartet signed for the newly formed Greenwich Gramophone (a sublabel of Chapter 1) and started recording the album that would become Windy Daze in April 1971. They would record a second album in 1972, which remained unreleased until 2021.
