José A. Castañeda

Real name: José Artemio Castañeda Hechavarría

Cuban composer and tres player.
(Santiago de Cuba, 20 Oct. 1928 - La Habana, Aug. 2013)
He founded important folk bands as Cauto, later known as Las Maravillas de Beltrán, where singer Caridad Hierrezuelo started her career. Later he founded "Los Modernistas de Pacho"with Pacho Alonso in 1952, which moving to Havana would change their name to Los Bocucos.
But he liked to change musical influences with other people so he would join bands as Mayombe, Avance Juvenil, Orquesta Volares, Estrellas Cubanas and finally Conjunto Rumbavana.
Nicknamed "Maracaibo"
