Welkins Boreal
Welkins Boreal performs classic metal with gothic and progressive influences. Imagine Sentenced meeting Motorhead, Ghost and Pink Floyd.
The band was founded by the songwriter Teemu Kautonen in 2018 in Helsinki as a reincarnation of his former band Nattvindens Gråt, which released three albums 1995-2000.
The debut album ‘Phantoms of Yesteryear’ was released 19 September 2019. The album was born out of many years of frustration Teemu had experienced when thinking about the wasted potential of the old Nattvindens Gråt albums. While many of the song ideas were great, the execution was lacking because of the hastily done arrangements by his teenage self and the rushed studio sessions caused by miniscule budgets.
In 2018 time was ripe to do something about the frustration. Teemu went through all old Nattvindens Gråt albums and came up with a list of nine songs that he thought contained fantastic ideas, and started revising, re-arranging and re-recording them. Eight months later, ‘Phantoms of Yesteryear’ was born.
In 2020 guitarist Aki Koponen joined the band and the two guys together with the professional session drummer Toni Paananen entered Finland's legendary Astia Studio to record a three-song EP 'Ashes' (release date: 11 September 2020). The EP was recorded using a fully analogue audio signal up to the point when the final master was transferred to streaming services. No autotune, no midi, no computer editing - just pure metal!
