The first incarnation of the band was formed in Iowa City, Iowa by vocalist Michelle Rule, guitarist and songwriter Chris Braun, bass player Chris Heifner, and drummer Josh Power. The four moved to Austin in 1992. Heifner was later replaced by Chris East (aka Paul Beast) on bass, and after East moved to Florida, Tom Balentine became the last bass player in the band.
In 1995, they agreed to change the band’s name due to a legal agreement with the Miss Universe beauty pageant and briefly became Miss Galaxie before disbanding.
