Bazalt are Ilja Baduljin (RU/NO) and Hallvard Müller (NO/DE). They started the duo short time after they met and played together for the first time at a SYNC event in Oslo in
2017, where they played improvised techno. They have continued doing so, but over time, the instruments have changed and Bazalt has now found it’s form in 100% improvised
techno played on analogue modular synths.
Baduljin also produces music as Fangarm, is one half of the VJ duo We Are Worms to make sure, every Bazalt appearance has a strong visual impact and uses his DJ skills to build Bazalt’s performances in a way that works well in a club.
Hallvard has a background in 70s/80s industrial music and always makes sure to challenge the listeners with inspiration from that scene, very fond of whirring, humming and grinding sounds and everything that is slightly off the regular beat. He is also a part of the collective behind the label Monument Records/MNMT and the Monument/MNMT- festival.
Despite that Bazalt mainly operate in the techno landscape, they are not shy of doing completely different arenas, like silent movies soundtracks or ambient industrial drone soundscapes.
