Orchestra

Orchestra "Alessandro Scarlatti" di Napoli Della RAI

Effective period / Period of releases: 1953 - 1997

Members: Raymond Meylan

Founded in 1949, the orchestra was one of four RAI orchestras formed after the end of the war in Italy. The Turin orchestra (Orchestra Sinfonica Di Torino Della RAI) originated from the earlier Orchestra Sinfonica Dell'Eiar, established in 1931, and was the most prolific/prestigious. The others were formed later, and were based in Rome (Orchestra Sinfonica Di Roma Della RAI) and Milan (Orchestra Sinfonica Di Milano Della RAI).

In 1994, the orchestras were merged in Turin, under the name Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale Della RAI.

However, in Naples, a new orchestra was formed in March 1993, imaginatively called La Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti.
