Biography
Time Machine
Members: Hugh McMillan, Ted Alexander (3), Ron Kuntz
Alberta (Canada) artist associated with Ron Mahonin's Heart Records label.Time Machine was a seven-piece band featuring the talents of Ted Alexander, Ron Kuntz (later formed Shylock with Bob Matthews of Fosterchild) and Hugh MacMillan (who would later become bassist for Spirit of the West), among others. The group was tight and well-polished, helping them to become one of Calgary's most popular club bands during the late-1970's.
On top of being a popular live act, Time Machine's members worked regularly together as session singers around town. When they did decided to record something of their own, it was only natural that they received chart success.
Their debut release "I Want You Back/Leaving A Living" was written by bandmate Ted Alexander and managed to achieve significant airplay on both Top 40 and Adult Contemporary playlists across Canada.
The bands' manager decided to try shopping them around to other labels based off the success of their debut record. Unfortunately, shopping the band around to other labels in other countries presented a problem - the common complaint was: "They sound too much like Chicago".
Time Machine recorded their second single at Vancouver's Total Sounds Studios during early-1979. "Angel In The Night" charted across Canada on Top 40 and Adult Contemporary stations and helped bolster Heart Records popularity as a viable entity. The song came to the label from an unknown US writer/publisher named "G. Jones", with the B-side written by Ron Kuntz.
