The Darkside is one of the many projects to emerge from the groundbreaking drone-rockers Spacemen 3. The band was led by Pete "Bassman" Bain and they came from the West Midlands / Rugby, England. The name of the group was chosen by Pete from the song "Dark Side" by The Shadows Of Knight. Pete had left Spacemen 3 just prior to the release of that group's album "Playing With Fire" in 1988 and returned to Rugby to begin playing casually with guitarist Kevin Cowen, drummer Craig Wagstaff, and keyboard player Stewart Rosswell (a.k.a. Sterling Roswell, also ex-Spacemen 3). They released two full length studio albums, a live album, and a handful of EPs and singles before disbanding towards the mid-1990s.
