Victor Castro

Victor Castro was born in Terceira - Azores (Portugal). He studied classical guitar at the Regional Conservatory of Angra do Heroísmo, where he studied with the Azorean Carlos Baptista Avila, with the Americans Steven Rings, Timothy Johnson, Miles D. Barford and Eddy Goldz and completed her studies with Robert Hugo (Uruguay). Furthermore, he masterclasses with renowned guitarists David Russell (Scotland), Eduard Isaac (Argentina), Costas Cotsiolis (Greece), Ana Vidovic (Croatia) Marco Pereira (Brazil), Sebastião Tapajós (Brazil) and Fabio Zanon (Brazil). He study Music at Federal University of Maranhão.(Brasil) and Master in Guitar Performance at Aveiro University (Portugal).

In 1999, he recorded the CD "Victor Castro Plays", which performs works by eminent composers as Paulo Bellinatti, Mertz, Albéniz, Nikita Koshkin and Augustin Barrios. In 2001, he released the CD titled "Freedom of Tradition", showing some of is arrangements of traditional songs from Terceira Island (Azores) for the classical guitar.

It has held solo concerts in Portugal, Spain, Germany, United States, Argentina and several states in Brazil (São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Roraima, Rondonea, Tocantis, Pará, Piauí, Amazonas, Rio Grande do Norte, Goiás, Maranhão among others). Also, work done in Portugal with several foreign musicians such as violinist Evgenia Soltys (Russia), cellist Grytsyouk Orest (Ukraine), the flutist Mikail Roussal (Ukraine) and the 1st clarinet in the orchestra of Milan, the Italian Christiani Latini. Recently worked with the violinist Rosa Pampillo, from Costa Rica.

Since 2005, along with the arorean guitarist Paulo Cunha, developed the project "Tribute to Carlos Paredes" in which he plays on Portuguese Guitar of Coimbra, compositions of the famous guitarist. Tribute was presented in St. Louis and several cities in Portugal.

Among the highlights of his career, we can mention the concert in celebration of "June 10" to His President of Portugal Dr. Jorge Sampaio, called the Festival of Music, Department of Culture of Coimbra and the International Festival Francisco Lacerda , invited to recital in Lisbon , at the auditorium of SPA, were he played the complete works for guitar of the Portuguese composer, Lopes Graça.

He played with the Brasilian Sinfonic Orquestra and the Chamber Orchestra of the Music School of Maranhão.He was invited to participate in the fourth and fifth week San Luis Guitar Festival. Also, winning twice since the award "Raphael Rabelo, the 2nd overall in the National Contest, sponsored by the National Guitar Festival of Piauí (FENAVIPI), the competition was played by dozens of guitarists from all over the country and had the jury distinguished interpreters of the guitar, such as those devoted teachers Brazilian Henrique Pinto and Fabio Zanon, Marco Pereira, Sebastião Tapajós, and Croatian Ana Vidovic, guitar world spotlight in the news.
Worked with great brazilian musicians, such Mauro Sérgio, Cuca Teixeira, Isaías Alves, André Vasconcelos, Celson Mendes, Sidney Duarte, Itiberê Zwarg, Luíz Junior, Milla Camões, Augusto Pellegrini, among others.

Taught classical guitar at the Conservatorio Regional de Angra do (Portugal), was professor and coordinator of the classical guitar at the Music School of the State of Maranhão, professor of classical guitar at UEMA (Maranhão State University) and Professor of Principles and Methods of Teaching Art in UNDB (University Don Bosco). Currently lives in Aveiro -Portugal, giving privating classes at Sociedade Musical of Santa Cecília, and playing with other musicians in several musical projects.
