a Capella was formed by Elise Rautenbach in 1970. She studied music at the Universities of Potchefstroom and Stellenbosch, and always had a special interest in the organ and choir music. She started off by forming a quartet that performed at various functions, and then expanded this by adding more voices from her church choir. The first concert of a Capella, as a group, took place in May 1970. The group rapidly became so popular that they decided to cut a record to sell at their concerts, and this subsequently resulted in them being offered a recording contract. They are still active today.
