Angelique

Members: Conny Brand, Joke de Knegt

Angelique was a Dutch novelty project, specifically created for the single Een Beetje Geld Voor Een Beetje Liefde, a parody of the 1982 Eurovision winner Ein Bißchen Frieden. The single went to the number 1 spot in The Netherlands during the summer of 1982, just weeks after the German original hit the peak position in the charts. The album Een Beetje Geld Voor Een Beetje Liefde was compiled, and several singles followed, none as successful as the first. The album Angelique's Aerobic Dance Party was released in 1983 and the final single, Hallo, Met Angelique?, was issued in 1985.

There were 3 different singers voicing Angelique, as well as several other characters on the debut album. Jazz singer Conny Brand revealed she sang the number 1 hit Een Beetje Geld Voor Een Beetje Liefde, while Joke de Knegt was the lead vocalist on the single's B-side, as well as on most other tracks of the first and second album. But so far, it is still unknown who sang on that final single from 1985.

The Angelique project was the most popular example of naughty or even vulgar Dutch parody & carnival songs, a trend that existed from the 1970s throughout the 1990s and, in some form, until today.
