French-Swiss film director, screenwriter and critic born December 3, 1930 in Paris, France and died September 13, 2022 in Rolle, Switzerland. He rose to prominence as a pioneer of the 1960s French New Wave film movement and was often regarded as one of the most influential French filmmakers of the post-war era.
He was married to Anna Karina from 1961 to 1967 and to Anne Wiazemsky from 1967 to 1979. Anne-Marie Miéville was his partner and collaborator from the late 1970s until his death.
