Author, born in Väring / Sweden in 1922. One of the most renowned swedish authors of the 20th century and has published more than one hundred books for children and young people, novels and short stories. He has been awarded the Swedish Astrid Lindgren Prize, the Nils Holgersson Plaque and the Swedish State Prize for Literature, among others. "Matthias and the Squirrel" received the German Youth Literature Prize in 1959.
