Gabriele Schnaut

German operatic soprano drammatico and mezzo-soprano.Born 24 February 1951 in Mannheim, Germany.

Schnaut initially studied violin and later singing. She was initially successful as a mezzo-soprano. She received her first permanent engagement in 1976 at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. A year later she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival. This was followed by further engagements at the Staatstheater Darmstadt (1978-1980), the Nationaltheater Mannheim (1980-1986) and the Deutsche Oper Am Rhein in Düsseldorf (1986-1990). In 1985 she switched to the highly dramatic soprano field and was able to inspire audiences here above all with Richard Wagner and Richard Wagner parts.
